Melissa Citro

Last summer, soprano Melissa Citro made a critically acclaimed debut with Glimmerglass Opera as Magda Sorel in The Consul, for which she was hailed "a major find, with an expertly deployed Elsa/Elisabeth caliber voice" (Opera) and a "world-class Sieglinde in the wings" (Opera Today). Next season, she will make her San Francisco Opera debut in that company's new Ring cycle, performing Freia in Das Rheingold and Gutrune in Götterdämmerung, and her Virginia Opera debut as Sieglinde in Die Walküre. She made her international debut in the title role of Jenufa with Stuttgart Opera in 2008, and recently performed Strauss's Four Last Songs with the Richmond Symphony Orchestra. Past appearances with LA Opera include Ortlinde (Die Walküre) and the Nursing Sister (Suor Angelica), and she will return to LA Opera this summer as Ortlinde and the Third Norn in the complete Ring cycles. A Grand Finals Winner of the Metropolitan National Council Auditions, Ms. Citro is also the recipient of a George London Award, the Richman Award from Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, a fellowship award from Music Academy of the West, and first prize in the Mario Lanza Competition. She was a scholarship recipient at The Juilliard School and Westminster Choir College.
